Wayfinding system for the DB Mobility Hub
With the Mobility Hub, Deutsche Bahn offers a new concept for flexible connecting mobility at train stations. Sharing options such as bicycles, e-scooters or e-mopeds are bundled at central points to make it easier to switch from trains to climate-friendly means of transport. R211 was commissioned to develop a uniform sign and, based on this, a wayfinding system for this offering. As a pilot project, the implementation was carried out at the Berlin-Charlottenburg train station.
A sign that creates orientation
The aim was to develop a universally understandable icon that represents different forms of mobility. It should be designed in such a way that it can be easily integrated into the existing pictogram system of Deutsche Bahn and can be used on various info trainers and surfaces. The focus was on scalability and cultural independence. The visual language had to be intuitive and function clearly from all distances.

The developed guidance system is based on a modular structure. It can be adapted to different locations and works on various carrier surfaces such as walls, glass, escalators or machines. The routing remains compatible with the existing train station signage. Elements and information can be flexibly exchanged or expanded to suit different local conditions.

The pilot implementation in Berlin-Charlottenburg showed that the new concept works: travelers can find their way to the Mobility Hub quickly and reliably. The neutral design enables integration into different color schemes of the local providers. This creates an overarching orientation aid that is equally understandable for all user groups.
