About the importance of remembering
On January 27, the day of remembrance for the victims of National Socialism, memorial and educational centers, exhibition houses, memorial sites and initiatives throughout Germany launched a nationwide social media campaign. The aim was to send a signal against right-wing nationalist ideas, historical revisionism and group-related misanthropy. Together with the memorial site department of the Topography of Terror Foundation, R211 developed the campaign appearance. Using a common hashtag and posting templates, the institutions participated with social media activities and other public relations measures to make their work more visible.
#WissenWasWar – Preserve knowledge, show attitude
The hashtag #WissenWasWar, developed by R211, emphasizes the role of memorial sites in imparting knowledge about the history of National Socialism. The campaign invites people to visit places of learning and remembrance and to commit themselves to an open, participatory culture of remembrance. The aim is to preserve knowledge, counteract disinformation and promote values such as tolerance and humanity – for a just and respectful society.

To facilitate participation, R211 provided customized resources. In addition to the hashtag, a meaningful visual, social media templates, intro and outro animations and a campaign video were created. In addition, posting templates were developed for various occasions so that the institutions can present their individual stories and concerns in a uniform and effective manner – both in terms of content and visually.
