R211 cleans the Rhine
On September 13, 2025, it was that time again – the RhineCleanUp entered its 8th year, and R211 was there this time. Since 2018, the initiative has been cleaning up the banks of rivers – initially along the Rhine, but now also along numerous tributaries. As part of our annual New Year’s campaign, in which we support charitable projects on behalf of our customers, friends, and employees in the Düsseldorf area, our team was out on our home river this time – and did a thorough clean-up.
Happy New Flow – the R211 offer is redeemed
With our customers’ commitment, we are jointly setting an example for preserving clean rivers. For each participating customer, we donated €5 to Rhine Clean-up – an initiative dedicated to cleaning and protecting the Rhine.

The Rhine is so clean
The Rhine is significantly cleaner today than it was a few decades ago. Sensitive fish species are returning, and pollution levels—particularly from organic waste and heavy metals—have been significantly reduced thanks to legal limits and modern treatment technologies. However, plastic pollution remains a growing problem—with repercussions far beyond the region: Estimates suggest that the Rhine transports around 125 million microplastic particles into the North Sea every day. These particles are less than five millimeters in size and are created both by the decomposition of larger plastic debris and by direct inputs.
About the fundraiser
With its “Happy New” New Year’s campaign, R211 is foregoing traditional Christmas gifts and instead investing in sustainable projects. As a Düsseldorf-based agency, R211 places particular emphasis on supporting regional projects that have a direct positive impact on the environment and the local community.
