Orientation that creates identity

The new guidance system for the “Im Pfingsterfeld” elementary school in Monheim am Rhein is part of a modern pedagogical concept that understands the school space as a place of learning and living. R211 was commissioned by Goldbeck, a general contractor for sustainable system buildings, to develop a custom-designed orientation system. The school building offers space for a cafeteria/auditorium, a large sports hall and four color-coded cluster areas on more than 6,000 m². The aim of the project was to make orientation in the building functional and visually appealing, while taking into account the school’s existing Corporate Design.

The guidance system – more than just a practical tool

The focus of the concept was the idea of linking orientation and identity. Students should not only be able to find their way around their school environment, but also feel comfortable. R211 developed the guidance system based on the existing design and in accordance with the color concept of the architects. The result is a harmonious solution that blends seamlessly into the architecture while providing a consistent brand experience.

The implementation took place in close coordination with the project participants. Special attention was paid to compliance with legal requirements for accessible design, for example for markings on glass doors. R211 developed solutions that are functional and at the same time meet the aesthetic demands of the school. The materials used enable simple and cost-effective updating of the signage – the school can implement minor changes itself, supported by the printing templates provided.

The new guidance system contributes to the identity formation of the primary school. It not only provides orientation but also strengthens the sense of belonging and the image of the institution. At the same time, it meets the client’s expectations regarding flexibility and economy. R211 has succeeded in developing a system that goes far beyond mere functionality and makes the heart and soul of the school visible.

Agency

Thinking strategically ahead instead of just implementing. Communication gains its strength not from individual trades, but from their connection. Anyone who only thinks in terms of implementation risks breaks at the interfaces – especially when several specialized agencies are involved.
