User interface for media installationof the Schloss Dyck Foundation
In the “Chinese Room” of Schloss Dyck, the foundation presents an impressive Chinese silk tapestry from the 18th century. Detailed scenes of everyday Chinese life revolving around porcelain, tea, rice, and silk are displayed on 24 vertical panels. To explain these, four interactive stations are available, which R211 technically revised and updated the user interface. The goal was to offer visitors intuitive navigation and to make the exhibit vivid. At the same time, the staff should be relieved by a long-term stable, easy-to-maintain software solution.
New user interface for more interaction
For the relaunch of the touch screen applications, R211 developed a contemporary, functional screen interface. Visitors can now navigate in real time analogously to the tapestry on the wall and thus explore details in a targeted manner. The technical implementation is based on a combination of browser in kiosk mode, website and game engine – a stable, long-term usable solution that guarantees both user-friendliness and low maintenance.

The design combines an analog exhibition experience with digital interaction. Visitors gain varied access to the scenes that would otherwise only be viewed in passing. Thanks to the intuitive user guidance, the object requires less explanation, and the communication of the contents is significantly facilitated. The interplay of design, programming and technology increases the quality of stay in the exhibition room.

The relaunch of the media installation brings advantages for both sides: visitors experience the silk tapestry vividly, informatively and in a modern digital format. For the museum staff, the explanation effort is reduced considerably, since many questions can be answered directly at the station. Thanks to autonomous control and durable technology, the ongoing operation for the client remains associated with minimal technical effort – a sustainable solution for everyday museum life.
